CBDT Audit Report Deadline 21 October 2026: AY 2026–27 Checklist for Eligible Startups
A short filing window remains for specified audit cases. Confirm eligibility first, then reconcile the report, upload status and acknowledgement before the deadline.
Direct answer
For Assessment Year 2026–27, the CBDT announced that the specified date for furnishing audit reports for persons at Serial No. 2 in the table below Explanation 2 to section 139(1) is 21 October 2026, extended from 30 September. The corresponding return-of-income date for that same specified group is 21 November 2026, extended from 31 October. This is not a blanket extension for every taxpayer or startup. The official government release states the scope and dates.

Eligibility check before relying on the extension
- Identify the assessee and Assessment Year; do not confuse financial year and assessment year.
- Confirm whether its case falls under the specified audit-category row of section 139(1).
- List each required audit report and the person responsible for filing and acceptance.
- Check whether any different statutory or special-category deadline applies.
- Record the official source and the adviser’s scope conclusion in the filing workpaper.

| Related parties and loans | Are balances, terms and approvals supported? | Confirmations and board records |
| Report review | Has the auditor approved the final version? | Final signed report and review trail |

Portal and sign-off workflow
- Confirm that authorised users, DSC or e-verification access and auditor assignment work before the last day.
- Complete the tax-audit schedules and resolve material book-to-report differences.
- Have the auditor and management sign off the final version; do not circulate multiple unnamed “final” files.
- Upload early enough to resolve validation errors and verify acceptance on the portal.
- Archive acknowledgements, file versions and a dated responsibility log.
If filing fails
Capture the exact validation message, timestamp and screen, escalate promptly to the responsible adviser and portal helpdesk, and keep evidence. Do not assume a draft or attempted upload constitutes filing.
